When Karl Pilkington asked for a little friend to accompany him on his latest trip, he didn’t think Ricky Gervais would take his request literally. For this third series of An Idiot Abroad, Karl will be joined by Warwick Davis on the Marco Polo route, from Venice to China.
The two different personalities clash almost immediately, with Warwick wanting to experience and enjoy the culture, while Kark simply wants to get a move on. As expected, we are treated to plenty of ‘Karlisms’, including “I’ve got no option, it’s like Pacman” while walking along a narrow alley, and thinking that Warwick wouldn’t be recognised as all he has done is “dress up as a bear in Star Wars”.
As expected in Venice, the duo take a trip on a gondola, and more unusually, go to a masquerade ball, where they are blindfolded and “touched up” behind a curtain. Karl’s reaction is priceless!
Karl decides to pick his own activity next, and “nearly dies” when he tries out a water jetpack, while Warwick sits nearby watching with a grin on his face. It doesn’t all go Warwick’s way, as he is reluctantly sent into the air tied to a load of helium balloons in Macedonia, after the locals who arranged it don’t have enough balloons to get Karl off the ground.
As expected, most of the show is aimed at making Karl miserable, and after a miserable start for him, here’s hoping it can only get worse! Warwick Davis is a welcome addition to the series, as he only seems to make Karl’s reactions worse. I’m already looking forward to episode 2!
An Idiot Abroad is on Sky1, Fridays at 9:00pm
