Miranda Series 3 Episode 1 Review

After an extremely successful first and second series and three comedy awards, the tension for the third series of Miranda has been palpable. But there was no need to worry – the first episode of series three was one of the best to date.

Apart from being funnier than ever before, the amount that’s packed into one episode is rather impressive.

The episode starts with the news that Miranda’s shop has gone under. She takes an office job but doesn’t last the day – despite a promising start where she rips off half of her trouser leg in a lift door. The Miranda and Gary will-they-won’t-they saga continues as they find themselves on ‘the brink’ of a couple of kisses.

Miranda finds out she has been surreptitiously filmed on the end of an obesity report on the news, hence the title of the episode.  Penny has turned her attention away from her finding-Miranda-a-husband mission to trying to get her to go to Eaters Anonymous, and this further pushes her in her mission to slim down her daughter – but she then finds herself a victim of a similar mishap.

Series three looks very promising –there’s already slapstick galore, laugh-out-loud comedy and plenty of clumsiness. There’s also a delightfully-named one-off character, Dick Twist – who trended on Twitter last night. One downfall, however, is that there is a complete, unexplained absence of bartender Clive.

Thankfully, the episode retains its format from series one and two – somehow it just manages to be even funnier. After a long absence from our screens, clumsy is cool once again.

  1. Well I love Miranda and thought this season was hilarious. I have never laughed so much. Some of the in the flat scenes were a bit lagging but then its not long before something happens to make us laugh – sometimes nearly crying with laughter. Was so happy they finally got it together :)

  2. Personally, I think it’s a pity that the show still gravitates around the Miranda-Gary relationship. Series 2 had it rounded up nicely, couldn’t other aspects of Miranda’s and her friends’ lives have been explored??
That being said, I’ve still really enjoyed the first three episodes of series 3 – dinner party had me in absolute stitches!! Episodes 4&5 were disappointing – although I did enjoy Sarah Hadland’s and the customer (Dominic Coleman) bits in ep 5!!

  3. Genuinely shocked at the bad response to season 3 – I bloody love it! For anyone that is enjoying it, I’ve written a blog post on why Miranda is my hero: http://cantshutitup.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/miranda-latin-meaning-worthy-of.html

  4. What has happened to Miranda series 3. It is embarrassingly stupid, and cringeworthy. What adissappoitment

I ought I would at least give it one more chance but. 10 minutes into the programme and I can take no more, an idea that has well past it’s sell by date. Agonisingly bad.

  6. I’m also very disappointed with series 3. Series 1 & 2 made me laugh until there were tears streaming down my face! So far with the third series, I’ve tried to watch each episode with an open mind, hoping that the first few were just a bit naff, but every week, I’ve found myself sat there, straight faced until the credits. Bring back the slap stick and farts but stop reusing the same jokes over and over expecting the audience to still find it funny the 30th time – i.e. “such fun”…no it’s bloody not.

  7. I am really dissapointed with series 3. The first two series’ was a laugh a minute but I don’t think I’ve laughed once in this series, the ‘im slick, falls over’ joke is so past old its cringey now. And nobody seems to spend anytime outside mirandas flat, 90 percent of all filming seems to be done there. It’s gone from the funny Miranda of her getting into funny embarrassing public moments to an unfunny 40 year old moping on a sofa. I waited 2 years for this and its been such a let down. Such a shame…

Comedy is a fine line between funny and stupid. I loved Miranda in the early days as it was really funny and didn’t cross that fine line – now it’s just too stupid to laugh at and no longer worth watching

  9. What a disappointment

  10. I love Miranda and have enjoyed all programmes so far. It’s about time we got back to slap stick entertainment comedy how it used to be. “Go Miranda”

  11. Yep after watching the third episode it is more cringe worthy than ever. It does not really have any further character development and all Miranda seems to do is run around being embarrassed all the time. Also there is only so much slap stick that you can use before it becomes stale like an old loaf of bread. I’m sorry Miranda the last 2 were thumbs up but this one is unfortunately going south.

  12. Episode 2 is even worse. I loved series 1 and 2. Series 3 so far is a great disappointment.

  13. Yeah, it was really bad. The worst yet in my opinion. Everything felt so forced and ‘try hard’…

  14. I TOTALLY agree with you. It was absolutely awful. So unfunny.

  15. Loved Miranda’s first 2 series but this first episode of series 3 was awful.
